One of the few trully a Pan Afrikanist street art movements, Imbawula is a force to be reckoned with. The highly regarded Fire on the Mountain [FOM] street art festival is one of Imbawula’s flagship projects. ‘Power to the People’ is a much of cliche nowadays, or stripped out of meaning for that matter. However, with regards to Imbawula’s guiding emeber, where everyone is a leader and no single person ‘manages’ the other, empowerment takes on a whole new meaning. For example, FOM is designed and implemented by various collectives affiliated to the trust. That is all the stages; performance, film tent, extreme sports, visual arts and graffitti are coordinated and implemented by collectives and movements, building the process from the ground up, thereby offering organizational ‘internship’.
One of Imbawula’s strengths is its ability to pull together collectives across parts of Afrika to work together, through the national strategic planning sessions.
